Charter sailing without unexpected costs

29.06.2019

Vacation is part of the year that everyone is eagerly waiting for, and if you plan to spend your vacation on board, we believe that you can’t wait for that check-in Saturday. As for every holiday, it is crucial to plan your journey, some activities and pack adequate clothes and suitable equipment. Chartering a boat is ideal for all those who are sea, wind and nature lovers, but it should be carefully planned. Where to go, what to bring with you how to entertain the kids, are just some of the questions that arise when we talk about seven days on board. But, the most important question of all is: How much does it cost?

In this blog, you can read about overall cost expenses you can expect during your chosen charter week.

Boat booking

The most expensive part of your charter adventure is certainly the boat itself. Accommodation price on board depends on a few essential elements which you must decide before you book the boat and these are size and type of the boat, preferred sailing period and time of the year you book the boat.

The size of the boat depends mainly on the number of cabins, more precisely on the number of people you take with you. Therefore, first, gather friends! Besides the number of cabins or the size of the boat, the price depends on the ship's age and equipment.

When we talk about the sailing season in Croatia, it is important to mention three main sailing periods – preseason, high season and postseason. Preseason in Croatia entails April, May and the first part of June and brings lower prices for boats. The high season covers the last part of June, July and August, and brings plenty of sea and sunshine pleasures, but also higher prices of charter services. Sailing in postseason includes sailing in September and October, and it is reserved for those who want to relax on sailing holiday and enjoy pleasant sea temperatures, but with lower charter prices than in the high season.

The earlier you book your vacation, prices will be lower. Early booking offer mostly lasts till the end of January every year, which means good prices and an extensive range of available boats for charter. During the spring months, we at Euronautic usually prepare a special discount for our customers, but the choice of available boats reduces. When the season starts, we inform our clients about Last Minute Discounts, but at that time very few boats remain available.

Of course, you should bear in mind that the charter price includes only accommodation fees, and as you can see, that cost can be pretty much variable. The boat should be paid at least four weeks before charters begin, and here you can find general terms and conditions. While booking a boat, you can choose additional equipment (extras) you would maybe like to have on board, but it’s not too late to do it at our base during check-ins.

Skipper

For bareboat charter in Croatia, you must have a valid license to operate a boat, or International Sailing License (ICC). If you do not have a sailing license, you will have to book a boat with a skipper. A professional skipper will take care of the boat and your crew, and the only thing you’ll have to do is enjoy your sailing trip. Skipper service is additionally paid, and it is according our price list 150 EUR per day + food.

Parking

If you arrive by car to our base, our base offers two parking possibilities. In Marina Kornati, you will find a secured parking lot where you can leave your car and pay for it at the exit according to the price list of the marina Kornati. But you can also park your car outside the marina, on some of the city’s parking at a lower price. Weekly ticket for city’s parking is around 27 € / car.

Check-in

Embarkation usually starts on Saturdays at 5 pm, and before that, it is necessary to check-in at our office and provide all the required documents. Several charges are additionally paid at the reception, they are mandatory for each charter, and they are:

• Deposit - the amount depends on the size and age of the boat, and the prices for each boat are listed in our price list

• Tourist tax - is 10 HRK per person/night, and for children from 12-18 years 5 kn,

• Base costs which must be paid at the base before embarkation – prices according to the price list.

As we have already mentioned, during the booking procedure you can pay in advance the additional equipment on board, but it is not late to do it at check-in either. Have a look at optional extras offered by Euronautic for your charter week:

• Outboard engine + WIFI + towels - depending on the size of the boat - 90 € - 120 € / charter

• Skipper - 150 € per day + food

• Outboard engine and 5 liters of fuel - 60 € / week

• Gennaker: 130 € / week

• Safety net - 60 € / charter

• Wi-Fi on board (50GB per week, unlimited number of devices) - € 30 / week

• Pet on board - 80 € / charter

• Towel set (2 towels size 50x100 towels, 1 towel size 70x140) / per person - 8 €

• Extra bed linen set (per cabin) - 12 €

Sailing

After you board the boat, a vacation can begin. Catch the wind in the sail, explore the beautiful Croatian coast and the islands and discover the new hidden coves where you will have fun with your friends. But, remember, during your seven days charter period it is necessary to spend a few nights in some marina to charge batteries and water tanks so bear in mind a budget for that. Please, pay attention to possible crowds in marinas during the high season. Most marinas do not accept berth reservations, so you must check marina’s availability before you reach the marina. Boat berth prices may vary depending on the marina and length of the boat. Approximately, the price for a 45-foot boat is 70-80 € per night. Anchoring in Croatia is only charged in concession areas, and the average anchorage price is 10-20kn/m per ship/per day.

Also, if you want to anchor in the area of national and nature parks, you will have to pay the ticket on the spot according to their price list. You can buy tickets in advance either online or at Euronautic reception.

During the seven days charter, the additional cost is also the food. The amount of this cost depends on your wishes and possibilities. Before the embarkment, we recommend you to plan a menu for all seven days so you can buy food at a nearby supermarket in Biograd nm or have at least one dinner in one of the beautiful restaurants across the Adriatic coast and islands.

Check out

After seven days, the boat must be returned to our marina in the same condition as it was when you took it. You can fill the fuel tank at several gas stations along the coast. At check-out, our team will check the boat to identify any possible damage. If there is no damage on board, your deposit, which you have left upon arrival, will be completely returned to you.

All these things are material, and you can pay for them depending on your wishes. What is priceless, is an authentic sailing experience, time spent in a good company, and the memories that will last forever.

So, if you still haven’t done it, take a look at our last minute offers and book a boat that will take you to new adventures that no money can buy.
